Ben (Michael Douglas) once ruled a car-dealership empire vast enough to fuel a glossy Manhattan lifestyle and endow a library at an East Coast university. But by the time he arrives at the college with his girlfriend’s daughter, Allyson (Imogen Poots), who is a prospective student, his world has collapsed around his ears. A business scandal has cost him his income and his marriage to Nancy (Susan Sarandon). His ever-present lust for every passing attractive woman threatens to take what small Ben has left. Even his new relationship with Jordan (Mary-Louise Parker) oscillates with tension. When Ben takes Allyson to tour the school, his motives are more than mixed.
The boys have been well directed in this baseball movie which is based on a right tale: a Mexican team of young poor boys won the Small League Series in 1957 by making a perfect game during the last match of this baseball tournament.
The film is a lyrical, modern fairy tale that tells the tale of Syracuse (Farrell) an Irish fisherman whose life is transformed when he catches a gorgeous and mysterious creature (Bachleda) in his nets. His daughter Annie (Barry) comes to believe that the woman is a magical creature, while Syracuse falls helplessly in like. But like all fairy tales, enchantment and darkness go hand in hand.”
Nemo Nobody leads an ordinary existence at his wife’s side, Elise, and their 3 children until the day when reality skids and he wakes up as an ancient man in the year 2092. At 120, Mr. Nobody is both the oldest man in the world and the last mortal of a new mankind where nobody dies anymore. But that doesn’t seem to interest or bother him very much. The only questions that preoccupy him in the present is whether he lived the right life for himself, loved the woman whom he was supposed to like, and had the children whom he was meant to have… now his purpose is to find the right answer.
The film is set in 1937, and the plot follows a young student (Zac Efron) who finds like in the theater after being cast in a production of Julius Caesar directed by Orson Welles (Christian McKay).
Zac Efron may look like a young brat but one can’t deny that he is a excellent actor. We are likely to see him more and more often on screen
Nice to see Robert Pattinson in such a role: he may play the role of Edward the manly vampire in Twilight but he isn’t worried to pass for queer as Dali in Small Ashes (can’t say he is a protean actor for doing this though: Robert Pattinson looks indeed quite natural in this role… not saying that he’s gay, but.
